HISTORY OF BARANGAY BALOLANG

Balolang is one of the 23 barangays of the municipality of Larena, Siquijor province, Philippines. In regard to the 2020 Census, Balolang has a population of 343 people, accounting for around 2.37% of Larena’s overall population.

The name “Balolang” is believed to be derived from the Bisaya phrase for “I don’t know.” Additionally, it’s noted that another barangay, Binoongan, split from Balolang.

In recent years, Balolang has served as the venue of environmental efforts. For example, the Philippine Statistics Authority in Siquijor held a tree-planting operation in the barangay, planting hundreds of Molave tree seedlings to improve environmental sustainability.

Long time ago, the rule of the Spanish in our country, it happend to those who violated yhr Spanish strict rule, the violator hide in the barangay, which was the name barangay Cogon. One haft of the barangay was covered with forest and thr rest of this hilly place was covered those came the name cogon.   There are few inhabitants in this place that the time and because of the strick rule of the Spanish Government, the violator used to hide in this place.

The Spanish Authority visited the place searching those violators who hide in the place.
The Spanish Authorities or civil gaurds visited every home asking the whereabouts of the violators who hide in their place and every time the local was asked, their replied in their Visayan dialeck of “Balolang”  which we means they dont know. From then on, the Barangay was called Balolang replacing their previous name which is cogon.
